in reality, the sheer volume of osmanthus in the air is almost nauseating

We chop and change. Yesterday I was besotted. I was also this morning – these pictures are just outside our kitchen. But there is a reprieve, a moment of respite from the abricot fromage floral frais, where it lingers like a whisper in the foreground, and then the onslaught when you move past a pumping bush and feel sick

Having never smelled the real stuff, I think I‘d volunteer to be sick for a go!

      Ditto.

    • Definitely worth the experience – osmanthus in multibloom is very memorable and sense altering : as soon as you open a door and go outside anywhere it IS the air – I can’t think of any similar flowers that can do that to entire cities

      • Linden & Hawthorne can scent huge spaces. Our village rec, churchyard & cemetery must have a dozen or more mature lindens & for just two weeks in summer the air caught in the riverside valley is spectacularly green & honeyed.
Our estate has numerous protected trees & hedgerows. It was designed with open green spaces & the hawthorn hedges in May are both rank & soapy. A bridal bouquet for Miss Haversham if you would.

      • Gorgeous ! I adore hawthorn – makes my heart pang. Linden is on the cusp of pretty and revolting but certainly evocative

Osmanthus in fragrance form is not for me. To my knowledge, I have never smelt the real thing.
PS. You are indeed very handsome in this pic. Excellent eyes! Xx
