I do still ultimately believe that Amarige de Givenchy is fundamentally horrifying.
But what a thrill nonetheless to get a vintage extrait at a Fujisawa recycle mart for twenty one dollars eighty seven.
For a second on skin I thought I were smelling a rebirth of Guerlain Mahora.
Then, the ‘other ingredients’ – take a look on Fragrantica for Dominique Ropion’s Full Kitchen Sink – take over – and for me, just eight minutes in, tank the whole enterprise, with a cloggingly sweet and artificial, beseechingly sickly – if admittedly somewhat thrilling – overabundance.

Ha! I feel the same. While it has all the hallmarks to be a favorite, I cannot stand its shrill synthetic overness. Neither vintage nor modern although I feel the current one goes to a slightly more floral/less screechy way. No can do. Ysatis all the way for me! Vintage only of course 😜
‘Shrill synthetic overness’.
Perfection.
There are no words for how beautiful the original Ysatis was.
It’s amazing that we keep persisting.
Ysatis … honestly on the right one I can hardly think of a better perfume. But like Amarige it’s so densely overpacked and unlike Vol De Nuit parfum say, doesn’t improve with age. It can smell a bit like overexertion sometimes.
Ps you should at least smell Amarige once – if you have some Tylenol on you. You will understand everything you need to in a couple of seconds
I also had a no 5 moment decades later (I love the current edp) and found myself consciously craving it yesterday – interesting
I still have the 1991 version of 100mL Edt (I think) and it is fantastic. yes, the overabundance of Ropion. ‘The floral bouquet, very intense and luscious, is created of mimosa, neroli, tuberose, gardenia and acacia with a gourmand hint of black currant.’ plus rose, carnation, ylang, orchid, orangeblossom and jasmine. one of the Whores of the time.
