I do hope Tom of Perfume Posse is ok

I get Perfume Posse’s posts in my mailbox. I love all the writers : the variety, the emotional openness, the weaving of life with scentology.

(The only reason I don’t often respond is the hassle of technology – all the ‘this field is required’ crap – otherwise I would be on there all the time.)

I particularly love Tom’ s passionate affection for LA and its lore, architecture, the vivid conjuring of his scented exploits in all the storied pits of Los Angeles – a city we visited once in 2004 because of consuming obsession with David Lynch’s Mullholland Drive: ( good Lord, the Beverly Hills Perfumery is somewhere I still dream of). The laconic, gently lacerating pieces he writes on the Posse are drenched in LA: I can feel them in my body, he captures its sun-shadowed weirdness so well – and it saddens me greatly to see the metropolis he has such a profound affection for now engulfed in flames.

May the fires be brought under control as soon as possible.

Tom wrote this yesterday on PP: If you had seen on the news that there is a new fire in the Hollywood Hills area, yes there is. That is much closer to me, however it is a much smaller fire, the winds are far calmer today and because of that they are able to use the water dropping helicopters. We are not near the evacuation area. It looks as if unlike the Palisades, this one will be knocked down soon.

I hope so too. My in-laws are there, next to Hollywood Hills but not yet under a mandatory evacuation order. We have urged them to go to their other home further down the coast—I don’t know why they won’t, they have one; though I see that this fire is more contained. Beverly Hills Perfumery holds a special place in my heart for suggesting the perfume that is still my all-time favourite, and keeping me supplied ever since no matter where I live.

My boyfriend and I live near the Hollywood Hills but on the other side of the hill. Fortunately the fire has not encroached on our area as of yet. The air quality has been very bad and you have to watch out for flying debris. Supposedly the winds will be dying down today, which will help in containing the fires.

What you are seeing on the news is no exaggeration; it really is that bad.

    • I don’t think you have had the best week.

What a start to the year, my goodness.

Please don’t take any unnecessary risks !

Really hope they are all extinguished very quickly

I am hoping the fires will stop. My older son lived in L.A. for most of his adult life, but wanted to buy a house and could not do so in L.A. due to the high costs. So he moved back to Maryland and bought a house on the Eastern Shore. However, although he works from home, he still has to go back to L.A. for his job, and thankfully, he did that a couple of months ago. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the people in L.A. I watched some heart breaking stories on T.V. last night where some people lost everything they had , but at least they survived.

OMG- I just saw this and I am so touched. I cannot describe what it was like to watch the news and see places I was so used to going to (Malibu and the Palisades) literally burning to the ground. Non-residents still can’t get into the area and I am not sure I even want to. Apparently from where Moonshadows was practically to Sunset everything along PCH is gone..
