I can’t remember if it was in McSweeney’s or Weird Tales. The writer described her visit to Japan. Her apartment was filled with giant spiders. She was mortified. She vacuumed them up, thinking she had solved the problem. More got in. She sensed they were plotting revenge for the murder of their friends. She complained to management, but they just shrugged and waved her away. She tried to speak to her Japanese colleagues about the spiders, but they just stared at her. After enduring cohabiting with giant spiders for two weeks, she could no longer tolerate it. She fled the country.
Somehow we have got used to this particular variety. Though it literally is right in front of our house and I worry about getting tangled up in the web.
Something about the fragility here spoke to me about the horrible world situation
So industrious, those spiders. And always something slightly insidious (like with snakes).
Btw, I enjoyed the birds twittering in the background and the roof construction made sure: this is Japan! A seven second journey to the other side of the globe and of course to one‘s inner emotions (spiders aren‘t insidious, it‘s my imagination).

Spiders : discuss
not against, hence it now lives there, but am slightly internalized each time I confront it in the morning
