Sakura– centred perfumes are, in general, pretty vile.

But I realized today that the blossoms, when in multitudes, really do have the most delicately ravishing smell : against the blue sky near my house, they were warm, fruity, almondly fecund; cold; aloof -reaching briefly into the eternal

The only place I have ever visited where cherry blossoms were in full bloom was Washington DC. It was sort of underwhelming as the fragrance wasn’t much different than the almond orchards in my native central California. As you so brilliantly put it, almondly fecund.
Yesterday they were ravishing; sometimes I think there is not really a scent there but yesterday I was proven very wrong! They are everywhere, but delicately persuasive rather than intrusive. Lovely
They look beautiful and it was a pleasure to look at the photo you sent. Thanks you for sharing!
My pleasure.
We need these moments of beauty in these horrifying times. How are you?
What beautiful pictures Neil! They were very calming to look at, and here in the US I need all the help I can get to calm down. Life here is very stressful and chaotic, given the current state of affairs. Thank God for the beauty of nature.
The news is too overwhelming to cope with. On a daily basis. This morning in our freshly delivered newspaper all there was was VIOLENCE.
Sometimes you need a breather!
So true about needing a breather! I’ve always been a news junkie but l have come to realize that I cannot read it constantly, the way I used to. It was starting to affect my mental outlook; I was becoming very anxious and depressed.
I have found that spending more time outdoors has helped; my boyfriend and I have a lot of beautiful plants and I sit outside with a glass of rose’ or pinot grigio and start to feel better.
Sounds ideal
I feel that most perfumes that try to do the whole cherry blossom thing insist in adding some bad cherry note to the mix and that’s one of the main reasons of why they are so bad. I’ve always been curious why that is, do they think the consumers are too dumb to realize that cherry blossoms won’t necessarily smell like maraschino cherries? But considering the weird hate wave we are having right now towards florals, I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case.
Interesting – what is the weird hate wave ? I am out of the loop.
Oh well, it’s something that seems to be gaining traction in fragrance spaces with younger demographics like TikTok, especially when it comes to fragrances ”for women” – basically Gen Z and younger saying that anything that isn’t gourmand is ”old lady”, but particularly florals and chypres (to be cynical, I don’t think they can even differentiate the two families). I was particularly shocked to see perfumes like Twilly, Alien and Coco Mademoiselle being called “not youthful” to put it mildly. Or even Victoria’s Secret from the 2000s! I turned 30 last year and my age might be catching up with me but I was truly in disbelief at this trend. Dark times indeed.
Sorry for the late reply; I love what you write here ( I DETEST Mademoiselle with great passion but agree it is absurd for anything non-gourmand to be labelled geriatric but then scent IS so subjective and emotional and you can’t help your reactions to perfumes especially if totally conditioned by what you are smelling around you).
I will just let the Tiktokkers do their sweet own little thing
