dreaming of bargains

I had a dream the other night in which a friend of mine was opening a bottle of Amarige – a dab on, not a spray.

And then I walk into a recycle shop and find the very parfum.

This would not even be in my top 200. But I am thrilled to have dreamt into being, psychically predicting its existence – one of the original Floral Perfume Monsters. What are the odds ?

Will report on the impressions on skin later – it smelled golden and smooth from the bottle – but we are NOT trying this thing in the workplace – no m’aam

This was the favourite of a German friend in Japan many decades ago; she smelled so exotic, so sexy—but something was a step too far for me (and I was no wallflower at the time); a sensual overload. Yet it always drew me to her, and it draws me at airports.

    • My feelings precisely. Amarige is sickening – but also gorgeously magnetizing. I was thrilled when I found it for ¥2000 – goes for ¥30000 easily on eBay and I will enjoy just owning and inhaling from time to time

That approach hadn’t fully sunk in with me until now; in fact it finally did with your post about Joy, which I don’t want to wear but can’t get rid of; I just need to smell it now and again, and it’s the same even for other perfumes without emotional associations. I feel silly for not having that realisation until now, about the ones I own (I’ve been feeling guilty about the neglected ones…). Variety is indeed the spice of life (as is the variety of spices…).

      • It is. Which is why I have held onto my vintage Angel – even though my male Japanese neighbor adores it – despite the fact that ultimately I abhor it. Sometimes I just need to be able to smell it on occasion, nevertheless

      • ( though I keep thinking I should, in fact, give it to him )

      • PS it has only just occurred to me that the newspaper wrapping (used to protect two strange but hilarious cabbage leaf tea cups and saucers are not in fact Charlie Chaplin or Laurel and Hardy as my now crap eyes first thought, but are actually Mussolini and Hitler. Quite apt for the times !)
