If in this current episode of madness you need a laugh then I suggest you google the words: Arjen Lubach America First. This should lead you to a video on youtube. One of our (Dutch) funniest TV hosts made it 7 years ago. It is still very funny and relevant I am afraid.
The only thing I am worried about is that we are next on his shopping list…

Do you mean how to have a laugh, or how to find the youtube link? Or how can he buy the Netherlands? Anyway, I am mostly on a news diet since he won, and try to do what I can in my direct sphere of influence. Once in a while I read Michael Moore’s substack (for free) and that helps.

Pandoras box has been opened, the horror has begun!
From now on—thanks to the US electorate—for four very very very long years we will be bombarded on a daily basis with insults, infamy, chaos, hallucination, rubbish, division, disenchantment, despair, stark raving madness!
God and stand us by and hopefully a few remaining democratic persons, institutions and entities who stand for sincerity, trustworthiness, and integrity.

I just can’t listen to any more Wagner, you know…I’m starting to get the urge to conquer Poland.

    We are in hell

The United States has made itself a buffoonish cartoon and a laughingstock. We are nothing to emulate and I hope that the world sees that clearly now.

Hell is empty and the devils are here, as Wm S used to say. Hope we survive this iteration of mad monarchs as others have been able to in the past, tho everything is far more intense nowadays.

He’s totally nuts! I am dreading living through his presidency. It was bad enough the last time.

How to survive it psychologically? Try living here… It’s so upsetting and scary! Not to mention I HATE, absolutely HATE, feeling like my country is becoming a laughingstock. Years of careful American diplomacy being thrown to the wind. Relationships with other countries potentially destroyed. It’s devastating, and The Orange One hasn’t even moved into the White House yet. There is no sanity here right now. He even wants to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico (which covers multiple states in this country) to the Gulf of America. This may seem like a relatively small thing but it’s had this name since 1607. That’s because a number of US states (California – where I live), Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, most of Arizona and Colorado, etc) used to be part of Mexico. The Gulf of Mexico is a historical, centuries-old name and all of a sudden Trump wants to change it, throwing out our history in the blink of an eye. Welcome to hell.

I do want to apologize for my ranting comment earlier; I didn’t mean to get so carried away. It’s just a very scary and uncertain time in the US right now for so many of us and I let my emotions get the best of me.

  10. Not trying to upset anyone, but try being in Gaza or the Middle East for that matter…Canada is just being threatened with tariffs..As for Greenland, they will first manage to get a referendum going (fair enough if it was really for independence) and then basically bribe the right people. Unreal. I feel like we are witnessing a slow but increasingly faster slide towards WWIII and unlike the previous WW, there is nowhere safe to run to. Maybe Japan is not a bad bet actually.
Anyway, thinking about perfume might be the only way to manage. Escape, Escape, Escape. Happy 2025 everyone.!

    • In agreement. It’s important (but difficult) to remain informed without becoming smashed in by it all; we then need to withdraw into irreality and dreams for a while.

May the people of Gaza and that whole region have that luxury as soon as possible
