I cannot deny that an Italian translation of my book Perfume –  a new co-edition –  will be coming out later in the year, published by L’Ippocampo. Just heard. So excited!

I can’t wait to read it.

In search of well deserved glory.

If you want a translation in Spanish, here I am!

    • I DO ! I am obsessed with Spanish right now, learning all kinds of foul language from Netflix Spanish dramas.

I also have a friend who really wants to do the French version: she totally gets my sensibility. Unfortunately these things are out of my hands. Publishing is a mysterious universe…

What wonderful news! I’ve only been to Rome briefly, but enjoyed it very much, would like to go back and see more some day. Santa Maria Novella is such a gorgeous old-world place. I use their bath & body products.

Great news. The lire will now roll in. Then the yuan. Then pesetas. All euros, of course, irl, but you know, money in the BANK!!!

    Congratulations. Global celebrity.

    • Not remotely. It will still be a niche book found in the corner of station librerie, not some lucrative blockbuster, but it is still somehow extremely exciting.

It really must be. I’m excited for you. It isn’t about the fattening of the wallet (although, as my father used to say, rich or poor it’s nice to have money) so much as knowing you’ve got that recognition and wide-spread readership. It IS a terrific book.

      • Thanks so much, seriously. As you know, I am critical of it myself but I do sometimes have a dip into it (last night I was pleasantly surprised by the Tuberose chapter), so it is great that it has possibly captured the imaginations of other peoples well. I am intrigued as to what aesthetic effect certain sentences (many of mine are surely untranslatable) will have in another language. Cantonese or Mandarin I could never read in a million years, I don’t have the brain for it, but I will understand everything in an Italian version. I am fascinated by the thought of it, as the original writer.

    That is absolutely super! Congratulations!!
And a Chinese co-edition—now that is really something! Hopefully, all those multimillionaires will be buying the right perfumes in future, guaranteeing the prosperity of the great & glorious scents and an early demise of those godawful mass stinkers!

    • I don’t know if I have that much clout – plus so many in the book are difficult to get your hands on! – but it will hopefully be a nice inroad for people (or at least just look nice on the shelf).

I am still hoping there will be a Deutsch edition.

Congratulations for this achievement, I’m looking forward to see the book on the shelves. “L’Ippocampo” is a good choice too, it’s a publisher known for its fine and extremely well curated publications. Greetings from Milano.
