APPROACHIMG NOVEMBER, THE GINGER LILY STILL FLOURISHES

in front of the kitchen window

We have been blessed with the ginger lily this year. Planted a decade ago, it first came to life in 2021 with one flower; this year it has sprung back, tree like, with three thick stems, and heads of flowers that wilt and bloom, wilt and bloom endlessly, depending on sun and rain conditions, throughout the summer.

the wilted mother lode we did not get to experience, because we were in England

With a second spell of warm, fecund weather (Autumn in Japan is really so gorgeous, you should come), the third head has opened, and smells so very lovely. Though I nearly just put my face into a spider, smelling it close, I am thrilled that it is still going.

Just lovely. Does the scent resemble the smell of the roots?

Tomorrow I will be going to a 70 ies feast celebrating five years of the Roze stadsdorp Amsterdam, a gay 50+ community.
Gingery Is the scent mood I will hunt for in my collection! Painting the lily!!

    • Hope it was a great party.

The flowers’ scent is very delicate, like a gardenia; this particular gem is less gingery, but sometimes there is also a very palpable ginger presence to the flowers’ perfume – really beautiful

  2. Oh, I envy you. That must smell heavenly. I wish we had something as glorious here to waft its intoxicating scent to us.

  3. Ginger Lily is always one of my favourites.
