So depressing because everyone knows exactly who he is and they wanted him. But I, too, had few illusions, so I am sad and scared, but not surprised.

I am so incredibly disappointed, aghast and quite frankly bitterly furious that so many US voters actually saw this person as the best choice. He is in every imaginable way beyond the pale, and yet the majority—young or old, white or POC, anglosaxon or latino, rich or poor—was more than ready to vote him back into office.
It is a complete and utter disgrace for the USA, and I never ever want to hear any well meant yet preachy words from any American regarding good governance, the rule of law, democracy and „the greatest nation in the world“, blabla again.
The US American majority voted for a serial liar, a misogynist, a felon, a racist, an extremist, a climate-change denier, a disrupter, an anti-democrat as their president. And yes, we all, the whole planet is now stuck with him!

I share your feelings, believe me – the one thing perhaps to cling onto is that 48% did not vote for this very worst example of a human – very roughly the same split as for the UK’s momentous Brexit mistake at the time, ie nearly half a country – so you can’t tar them all with the same brush. My in-laws in the US, and all my colleagues there, are devastated at the complete destruction of civility and any rules of discourse, behaviour and politics, and yes, it will hurt not only them but the 52% as well (the turkeys who voted for Xmas), as well as us all more widely. Finnish relatives are scared due to their long eastern land border, for example. Just remember the 48% exist, though. Otherwise they will be well and truly alone.
You are definitely right. I just wish more people had the intuitive understanding of what a shite individual Donaldo is. If it were Vance who had won I wouldn’t be complaining. There will always be a right and left wing in ideology; it’s part of human nature. But it’s the fact that people can’t see who he really is that makes me want to scream out my hair in Emperor’s New Clothesness.

I knew it was going to happen. We had no candidate (and quite literally no choice). Voting is like being asked to choose between shit for dinner ORRRRRR shit for dinner, thus leaving voters with the choice of picking which one has the best presentation….even though it’s looks, and quite clearly is, in fact, SHIT.

More afraid. The Tories have legislated against protesting to the point of jail time for peaceful protesting. These powers have enabled police officers to abuse the public, mainly women, poc & LGBTQIA+ people. Verbal, physical, mental & sexual abuse have all come out as the norm in many forces. People are afraid.
The media no longer show protest unless it’s violent or showing the police as heroes.
Peaceful protests are never shown or mentioned.
America chose Trump. The rest of the world didn’t, but we’ll suffer anyway.

We tried. Two million of us volunteers knocking on doors in Pennsylvania since Saturday alone, repeated across every swing state.
A portion of his voters are as racist and misogynistic and cruel as he is. Many others – and these are the ones we tried to get through to – just know that their rent has doubled and they can’t afford their groceries and they just think – ‘well, maybe someone else in charge will help me.’ Politely referred to as “low-information” voters. I make no excuses for the ignorance. I’m appalled and ashamed for my country. But know that half of us voted against him, and many of us actively fought tooth and nail to prevent it.
Kudos to you and sorry if my post was too abrasive. I had to just get it out at that moment.
Truly no need to apologize. It’s bad enough we’ve done this to ourselves. But the impact won’t just be within our borders. I don’t blame anyone for cursing us to the heavens right now.
