this didn’t excite me as much as it might have

experiences were relived;

but some were dowdy

    I do love Chloe (maybe just nostalgically, about same time as my liking for Anais Anais), ashamed to not know the others, but now may never, given what you say.

    • I love Chloe and Anais Anais too – they really captured the innocenter side of things florally in the eighties when everything was crass tuberose : I also liked Fendi, which was much fizzier and zinging.

      I think it might literally just be age : these editions, though boxed, are just too old ( the others, Valentino, Cerruti, have generic Lady In Red properties )

      (sigh)

    Interesting. Tell us more!

    • Yes I thought this was going to be a big whirling nostalgia fest but I was just exhausted and underwhelmed to write a single sentence.

      Burn out is real !

      Hope you are enjoying Denmark x

    I think the nostalgia of Chloe and KL would be quite overwhelming for me. Not quite sure why I had so many small tester bottles at one point, but I did, do you remember?

    • That is the reference. That precisely. And if those fresh top notes had been there I also would have found the emotivity potentially excessive.

      But the musky has been of the faded tuberose just wasn’t pristine enough

    I’ve been disappointed in most of the vintages I’ve obtained lately and I’m not sure if it’s just seasonal or if I’m not getting the profound memory recall I was expecting (hopes too high).
    I’ve noticed since last year when my above-average sense of smell was literally knocked into hyperosmia that I’ve grown to hate my own collection. My preferences totally shifted, too. I go through phases on hating certain notes. I still hate violet – I’m pretty sure I actually hate her more and it only grows with time.

    I’m about to give Arquiste’s Venice Rococo a try. It’s supposed to smell like vintage makeup, aldehydes and animatics with a banger Iris in it. Something about the 1700’s, I was half asleep when I had Siri read me the review but I heard enough to at least consider a sample or discovery set…or whatever they’ve got that hopefully isn’t the full bottle.

    Maybe I’m just old and hard to please. I’ve disliked almost everything the past few years. The highest rating I’d give is a 6/10 and I’m being really generous with the 6.

    Guess I’ll go see if there’s a sample because I forgot to do that earlier. Thanks for the unintentional reminder!

    Most not my faves, since they share that fat, blowsy, overripe style. KL easily the best of the bunch. Dowdy is a good word, and they might be a bit tired with age and so even more so. Now, Jean-Louis Scherrer without the 2: YES!!
