Love fireflies. I’d never seen one until a rather enchanted trip to Chicago a few years ago…Like the cherry of a cigarette being held by a ghost moving in animated conversation. Perhaps this is my father I think, keeping the smoke to himself in the Otherworld while letting me see the glowing ember as a cue?
I remember when I moved to California and mentioned lightning bugs/fireflies and they looked at me like I’d lost my damn mind. I actually looked up if I can bring bugs there and turns out it’s a crime.
It’s sad how rare they are now and that people have taken to keeping their locations private because humans ruin everything. I went from catching them and putting them in jars in my room to blacking out the lights in my home to safely escort one back outside 40+ years later (while lecturing him that he’s got to go mate or something because he’s going extinct). 😆
And the semi! I miss them. Got a blanket on my knees at work today…
I just discovered your blog. It’s wonderful.
Wow – very nice to hear someone likes it. Thanks.
How did you come across it?
