On first look it could be any of the 80’s Rochas round bottled editions : Madame Rochas; Byzance; Lumiere – all of which are gorgeous perfumes. In fact, it turned out to be a particularly pristine edition of Mystere (less strange – you might even say sinister) than the dark soiled silvery murk that was housed in the asymmetrical original 70’s bottles I own; a smoother, more wearably smooth ambered version (this is the edp) that on this October Monday feels edgy and atmospheric – but soothingly perfect.

No problem, as I have been absent as well. The only perfumes I wear now are what I already own, which are all most vintage. I am not buying anything new.

Mystere. Yes, that bottle looks good on fur. Good instincts, dear N. I’ve always put it in the same company as the Weil compositions made to be fur-coat-friendly (as befits a former furrier): Zibeline, et al. (I would *love* to get my paws on a bottle of Chinchilla. I’ve never sniffed it. Have you?) This is perfect Mystere weather, when everything in the garden is past its prime and the scents from outside are heading towards the sous bois. Simpatico.

I know I have smelled something called Chinchilla and I am sure it was filthy (did I mention it somewhere in my book ? My sieve brain would no longer know )
I don’t remember reading about it there, but my brain is similarly structured.
